Little Red Riding Hijab Illustrated book
Story
LIttle Red Riding Hijab is a modern re-telling of a very well-known story, Little Red Riding Hood. The original story has been told over many generations, perhaps originating in Europe in the 10th century. In Arab cultures it is known as Laila and The Wolf.
Little Red Riding Hijab is now the story of a Muslim girl who immigrated with her family to Canada, where they, and their neighbours, face the challenges of living in a country where Muslims are a minority. But the story is still set in the visit to Grandmother’s house and the encounter with The Wolf in the woods.
This project emerged from considerations of how the Hijab, and the women who wear it, are viewed in Canadian society. There are sometimes difficult encounters. But as new immigrants learn how to be themselves in a new culture, and as Canadians learn about their new neighbours, people are changed and hope emerges.
The Digital Book of Little Red Riding Hijab is available for viewing on your device. Download the PDF and view it in hi-res on your phone, tablet or PC. This project is almost finished, but your help will make it possible for me to complete it and market it. And I hope a successful project will lead me to create new graphic novels, animations, comics and illustrated books.
